TDHCA Eviction Diversion Program and Rent Relief Update
As we have previous posted, the Texas portion of rental assistance and relief from the prior COVID relief legislation is administered by TDHCA. There is still more than $1 billion available and this program is open to both tenants and landlords to apply.
Both landlords and tenants can use the website to create an account and submit their application. If you need assistance completing an application, TDHCA customer service staff can complete the application with you by phone by calling 1-833-9TX-RENT (1-833-989-7368).
TDHCA has also published a Rent Relief Program Q&A document for more information. After you register, you can also see a recorded February 12 webinar on the program for additional information.
In addition to the Rent Relief program there is also the Texas Eviction Diversion Program (TEDP), also administered by TDHCA. Beginning on February 15, this program expanded beyond the initial pilot to all counites and cities in Texas.
There are many resources to learn more about this program:
- TDHCA TEDP page
- TX Courts Judicial Branch TEDP page
- TEDP Brochure (coming soon the brochure will be available in multiple languages)
TDHCA will host a TEDP webinar, today, Wednesday, March 10 at 1 p.m., Austin local time. The webinar will provide an overview of the program.
If you miss today’s webinar it will be recorded for later viewing as well.
The TEDP set-aside of the Texas Rent Relief Program helps Texas tenants stay in their homes, and provides landlords an alternative to eviction. The program provides up to 15 months of rental and utility assistance for eligible tenants who are behind on their rent due to the COVID-19 pandemic and have been sued for eviction.
Both the tenant and the landlord must agree to participate.
