MHI Winter Meeting & DOE Comment Letter Needed
Last week in New Orleans, MHI hosted its winter meeting. Industry members gathered to discuss the most pressing issues we face. Topics included supply chain issues, backlogs, zoning, MH community litigation trends, financing, and coming HUD code changes. The meeting also facilitated discussions on strategies to try and grow our market, while highlighting several recent efforts to bring MH into previously prohibited city markets.
One of, if not the biggest, area of focus for this meeting was the discussion on the coming Department of Energy rule on manufactured housing. With a final rule expected out by May 2022, the latest iteration of the proposed rule and Environmental Impact Statement, still pose serious concerns for the industry.
These concerns include possible limitations on house configurations and space limitations for insulation, testing requirements, enforcement, and an imbalance of new requirements and their resulting cost impact. The industry is concerned that the consumer benefit and cost breakeven points are not being properly weighted against the adverse impact the rule will have on MH supply and affordability.
MHI is asking for the industry to again provide your voice on this key issue and submit your comments to the DOE.
To participate in the Call to Action click here and follow the simple steps on MHI's website. The letter to DOE has already been composed – all you have to do is insert your home address and click submit.
