From the 85th: Sine Die – TMHA Supported Right to Replace Bill on Gov's Desk
Yesterday was the final day of the 2017 Texas Legislative Session, more accurately speaking it was the end of the Regular Texas Session. With a special session looming, it looks like the representatives and senators will be called back to work this summer.
Before we get to the special session though, we must look all the way back to Sunday for the finish of the 85th. On the final day for conference committee reports to be voted on before the midnight deadline, S.B. 1248 by Sen. Buckingham was once again brought to the floor of the Senate, and once again the bill passed with unanimous support.
The TMHA heavily supported and advocated for manufactured home community owners right to replace bill is now on the governor’s desk. The governor has until June 20th to sign into law or veto bills that have made it all the way to him. We are optimistic this final step will occur in the coming weeks, and come September there will be greater protections for the private property of manufactured home community owners in Texas.
With the previous passage of the comprehensive manufactured housing regulation bill, HB 2019, TMHA is thrilled that its top two legislative priorities were among the few bills that passed this session. Only 1,211 bills passed out of 6,631 total bills filed. TMHA’s supported bills were among those few.
We will have multiple posts in the future to go into detail about all that transpired in the last 140 days.
But as a final word closing out this session I’d like to thank the support of TMHA’s members, the board of directors and the executive board. I’d also like to thank our terrific lobby team and everyone who helped us lobby the legislature, who attended our Capitol Visit Day, as well as some key members who came through towards the end when we needed extra help. A special thank you to David Lewandos, Bill Maupin, Karl Radde, and the more than 130 members who sent messages to their representatives over the weekend to help get SB 1248 across the finish line! We could not have done it without all of your efforts.
