From the 83rd: Sine Die – The 83rd Regular Session is behind us; Special Session has already begun

Here is hoping all TMHA members had a good Memorial Day and took a moment during the day to remember those who sacrificed for our great country and preserved the democracy that withstands us.

Speaking of democracy, the 83rd Texas Legislative Session ended, yesterday.  Well, sort of ended.

The mark of the end of the 140 days of session is when the legislature adjourns “sine die,” which is Latin for “without day.”

Of course in yesterday’s case just as soon as the legislators thought they were done, word came from the Governor’s office not to pack their bags just yet.  Welcome to the first called Special Session of the 83rd Legislature.  The special session is currently only focused on redistricting, but the Governor can add other issues at a later time.

TMHA is currently working on a special edition MH Texas Quarterly dedicated to this year’s session.  The veto deadline for bills is June 16.  After we know the ultimate fate for all legislation from the regular session we will get our special edition to TMHA member’s mailboxes.

For those readers of these posts we thank you for your attention and hope you have enjoyed them.

I have received quite a lot of member feedback from these posts over the last 140 days.  If you have any thoughts or comments please send them my way – and we accept all kinds, good, bad, constructive criticism, you name it.

If there are any bills TMHA was successful in passing or defeating this session that you feel will have a positive impact on your day-to-day operations, we want to know about that too.

Additionally, if you have anything you would like us to publish in our special issue or specific legislative or political topics you would be interested in a more in-depth analysis, then send me your requests.  We will do our absolute best to accommodate all requests.

Finally, rest assured if items are added to this now special session impacting our industry, we will fire up this machine again and provide the absolute latest on all actions in Austin that could impact our manufactured and modular housing industry in Texas.

On behalf of TMHA’s staff, a tired TMHA lobby team, and one tired but happy executive director, I thank all of our members for their support.

And….God Bless Texas.
