84th Recap: Landord Security Devices and Costs of Rekeying
HB 2404 passed this legislative session and allows a landlord to deduct from a tenant's security deposit the cost to rekey a security device if the tenant breaks their lease and vacates the premises. A condition of the ability to deduct from the security deposit is that there must be a provision in the lease that authorizes the deduction, and the provision must be underlined or printed in bold.
TMHA will update our home and lot lease contracts to include the new provision as we update all our forms to reflect recent statutory changes. This new law becomes effective on September 1, 2015.
